You are looking for a shift in that which is familiar and self referential to an imaginary entity.
Nothing can occur within the dream that is beyond the dream.
No dream character has ever transcended ....or even survived....the dream.
You are the consciousness in which the dream occurs.
Nothing within the dream is you....and yet.......everything is.
Ain't that a kick in the ass?

Yeah. If nothing else, I suspect that all this is going to lead to some lucid dreams.

agreed,
and, i "understand" that there is some thing "before" consciosness.
Undifferentiated, unknown and unknowable, undefined, source of all, but no-"thing", beyond space and time. Perhaps "infinite potential and possibility" is a good name.
And (pardon the poetic-ness) out of (in ?) this arises or appears or is projected mind, the seat of consciousness. (Can you have consciosness without "form", I think not)
Consciousness-mind works as a lens to focus/recieve/re-cognize the projections of the source and then perceptions, thoughts and feelings are re-cognized by consciousness and bang - here we are (apparently).
In dualistic terms this seems a way to talk about
that
which cannot be talked about or put into words.
None of us will ever write anything true on this forum.
yet, It's all true and none of it is true 
If a pointer "points" for you, great
if not,
then not.
