Dear Leo,

You often use these words in your replys.
Would you be willing to share with us a little more of what you mean by those words "Vast Empitness"?
How does that appear for Leo?

For me it appears as "just this".

What is here now.

That's all.

And that's everything.

And nothing.

Can't help it McB, those words seem so...so.. well...... here's a little story:

'Vast Emptiness' is a translation of what Bodhidharma apparently answered to a question of the Chinese emperor Wu Di. When I first heard it in a BBC radio program it gave me goose bumps.

Words like Love, Consciousness or Awareness are beautiful but the phrase 'Vast Emptiness' is less specific, and seems more enigmatic, and mysterious. Sometimes it evokes the same sense of awe as high mountains, and far of galaxies, yet this mind cannot make a picture of it.

There is a clear sense as to what those words point at, and -at the same time - I don't know anything at all about this Silent, Mysterious, Vast Emptiness.

Googeld this:

After a grueling trek over the icy Himalayas, Bodhidharma arrived in southern China in 520 and traveled to Guangzhou (Canton) where he found favor with a local potentate named Shang Yao. Word of Bodhidharma's teachings soon reached the Liang Emperor, Wu Di, who requested an audience with the monk. Wudi, a devout Buddhist who was noted for his good deeds, asked Bodhidharma what merit he deserved for building temples and endowing monasteries all across the vast territory he ruled.

"None whatsoever," Bodhidharma replied. He went on to explain that that salvation could never be achieved by worldly deeds.

Now, this was nowhere near the brand of Buddhism that the emperor had been following his entire life. Bewildered, he asked Bodhidharma, "What then, is the true nature of the Buddha's teaching?"

"Vast emptiness," was the even more bewildering reply.

By now the emperor was getting really angry. "Just who do you think you are?" he demanded to know of Bodhidharma.

"I have no idea," the monk answered simply.

I think that monk may lose his head.

Maybe he shouldn't have been so truthful.

I think we need a headless smiley.

One that's just a pair of hands.

This one " " is too often overlooked...

To proclaim that one has no idea is to proclaim he does.

To proclaim that one has no idea is to proclaim he does.

Which could mean that one who proclaims that s/he does,
actually doesn't have an idea.

So if the one that does, doesn't
and the one the doesn't, does
then perhaps
to proclaim that one has no idea
is -after all-
to proclaim that one has no idea.

But I have no idea if this is really so.

Laughing Laughing

To proclaim that one has no idea is to proclaim he does.

* "one has no idea"--> one in this instance perhaps refers to all,
all includes any one, any he, she or he-she, any i, I or I-i,
"he does"--->in the next instance, presumably refers to the one,
separate from the all, the individual idea'd concept of the i, he, she, he-she,
this one has i-deas, and proclaims them as such...thereby proclaiming, by such proclamations the separate nature of the individuated he-i...
Laughing
thereby making the above statement clearly relevant to any he
who is lost in ideas of a he-ness outside of oneness..

and seeing that i've written this,
it's clear it refers to me
Laughing Laughing Laughing
either way, i'm a dead man,
dead one?
