Question: Your book is a consolation as well as a
provocation. Nobody can be enlightened, nor be awakened. A mask or role can
be awake or not in the dream, but that is not relevant, I understand.
But tell me please, IT being the actor, is it of any relevance to strive?
For "I" am not striving, but the One Self acting as me. Is being good or bad
of any relevance? If the One Self plays all the roles, Ghandi but Saddam
too, are its acts, puppets so to say?
Answer: Relevance is a relative term within the game of life.
Apparent events, actions, thoughts and deeds certainly have their value,
just like pawns have relevance within the confines of the game of Chess.
The word relevance has the same basis as the words 'relative' and 'relating.'
Relating is from this to that, between such and so, but totality cannot
relate to anything, because there is nothing outside IT to relate to.
Totality has no relevance, but it includes it as part of the game and within
this game striving may appear; there is just no separate self that can choose
to either strive or not strive.
Any move, each decision, every thought, all action or inaction,
is a modifications in the way Awareness appears to ItSelf.
To say that Gandhi and Saddam are puppets is one way of putting it,
but in truth, there are no individuals either used as puppets,
or independently controlling their life; there is only life living
life as the apparent individuals.
Seeing that IT is One Substance, we cannot find a difference
between the form and the substance. Just like it is not possible to
separate the form of the statue from the stone out of which it has been crafted.
The form is the substance, the substance is the form.
All this is IT. IT is all this.

What we are really talking about here is something totally simple. It is what is in this room right now. It's what you are. It is all there is. What you are is this presence in which this arises. There is something seeing this. Something knows you are sitting here. Something knows that the body/mind is sitting here.
If you close your eyes, you can feel there is an energy there which you could interpret as into the words 'I exist'. Don't name it - don't say , 'Oh, this is an energy in the body!' There is simply an energy, 'I exist'. Change that into 'presence' and that is what you are - stillness, the energy of presence... It is utterly impersonal and still, and it sees what arrises. It is very simple and very immediate, and it has walked around with you all your life and watched you doing this and doing that, looking for this and looking for that... And in this very looking is this presence, that which already is.

Among a thousand clouds and ten thousand streams,
Here lives an idle man,
In the day time wandering over green mountains,
At night coming home to sleep by the cliff.
Swiftly the springs and autumns pass,
But my mind is at peace, free from dust or delusion.
How pleasant. to know I need nothing to lean on,
To be still as the waters of the autumn river.

Self is what you are.
You are That Fathomlessness
in which experience and concepts appear.
Self is the Moment that has no coming or going.
It is the Heart, Atman, Emptiness.
It shines to Itself, by Itself, in Itself.
Self is what gives breath to Life.
You need not search for It, It is Here.
You are That through which you would search.
You are what you are looking for!
And That is All it is.
Only Self is.
