Question: I have read your book Awakening to the dream, and now reading Self to Self..
There is something that seems paradoxical to me.
It seems that when people ask you questions, and they are the ones that are HIGHLY confused, or feel insane, or depressed, severe ups and downs, seem to be still missing something, unable to give up the search...continuously in loops.....etc (all that describes me quite well)
you seem to answer stating THIS first:
"If your condition is not caused by an imbalance
in the system - and you have confirmed this via a health
professional - then the following might be considered:"
But what if you DO have a physical disorder or several..as confirmed by yourself and professionals..
why is THAT given a separate category from the truth you normally write about. You first want to RULE OUT physical illness and THEN you go on to explain....
I have struggled so much with physical problems, becoming a seeker,
now accepting EVERYTIHNG that arises, bad, good, I welcome it all, and welcome the doubting ,
and just see life just is...
But I am confused why you put illnesses in a sort of separate category.
I have studied health and healing, traditional and natural medicine, yoga, non duality, etc....
but why is illness given a special place....isnt it all part of the dream?
And yet still one may want to do something about it..like eat healthier, meditate, etc.
Response: The 'disclaimer' you refer to is there for the same reason I would advice someone with a broken leg to seek medical attention instead of limping on in the hope that meditation and good vibes will solve the problem. Non Duality points to the 'mirror' which holds all reflections including certain illnesses. Within the 'mirror' actions to alleviate an illness may be taken. As you point out "And yet still one may want to do something about it..like eat healthier, meditate, etc"
Mentioning illness is not to exclude it, but includes it as an option. And since I'm not a medical doctor, I do not want to give specific health advice via email. When a broken leg -or whatever other dis-ease - is diagnosed correctly, it might be taken care of by a professional. Sometimes, the impression I get from people suffering depression, is a sense of guilt; as if they are doing something wrong that needs to be addressed by 'spiritual means' while it may be an imbalance in the body which can be adjusted by medicine, diet, exercise or other life style choices.
Whether or not there is a physical disorder has ultimately no bearing on what you truly are. The 'loopy, depressed confused seeking character' does not describe you, but appears in you. 'What You Truly Are' is not limited to a 'confused-me-object'. THAT which knows the confusion is not confused at all. Seen from 'This Knowing' the confusion is clearly seen as confusion and the 'me' is clearly seen as 'a me' just like a mirage may be known as a mirage. It is not up to this 'me' to give up seeking or anything else. The 'me' is not 'the doer' It is 'a done thing'. It is an object and one of its 'qualities' is that it considers itself to be the subject -the experiencer - while in fact it is but an experience. To put it slightly different: YOU are the inexperience-able experiencing while 'little you' is an experienced object. Ultimately the experiencer - and the experience are not two. The mirror and the reflections are not really 'separate categories' but words ARE categorizing agents; that's what they do…no words, no categories. And by using words the idea of separation may occur, even when they attempt to point back to the One Consciousness in which they appear and dissolve again.
So the ups, the downs, the 'me', thoughts, feelings, birds, confusion, rocks, cars, trees -everything for which there is a label- are 'objects'. They are 'reflections' in the-mirror-you-are. The 'reflections may interact (for example as doctor and patient) but this does not affect the mirror in any way. The 'seeking me' is like a reflection in search for the mirror; nothing it apparently does will bring it closer to the mirror, nor will anything it does distance it from the mirror. Of course, the mirror and the reflection can only be seemingly separated by words; in reality they are One. In this metaphor they represent the unity of the eternal and the temporal and You Are fully This-One right now.

1 May the unique Self, which appears as various objects in the same way that gold takes the shape of the mould into which it is cast, be our support and guide for composing this work, Sorupa Saram, which proclaims that the nature of the world is only consciousness.
2 Since the three kinds of differences do not exist, everything is only consciousness. The certainty of the existence of consciousness is stated in this way.
Since there is nothing at all that is different from consciousness, the five elements, along with the five senses and the five organs of sense, all these are consciousness only. Whatever is in the beginning, in the middle and in the end – all these are also consciousness. The indescribable illusion is also consciousness. The one who perceives everything and the act of perceiving are also consciousness.
3 Question: Is there a logical way of concluding that everything is consciousness alone?
Answer: Yes, there is.
All the world’s diversity, which derives from the misperceptions of the mind and which appears to be real – is it not the witnessing consciousness alone? Hence, everything – beginning with liberation and including purity and impurity, joy and misery, that which is and that which is not – is only being.

'I know not who I am'
I am neither a believer going to the mosque
Nor given to non-believing ways
Neither clean, nor unclean
Neither Moses not Pharaoh
I know not who I am
I am neither among sinners nor among saints
Neither happy, nor unhappy
I belong neither to water not to earth
I am neither fire, not air
I know not who I am
Neither do I know the secret of religion
Nor am I born of Adam and Eve
I have given myself no name
I belong neither to those who squat and pray
Nor to those who have gone astray
I know not who I am
I was in the beginning; I’d be there in the end
I know not any one other than the One
Who could be wiser than Bulleh Shah?
Whose Master is ever there to tend?
I know not who I am.

…to say ‘I do’ is altogether false, because there is nobody
who does; all happens by itself, including the idea of
being a doer.

Don't let appearances fool you
A cabbie picks up a Nun.
She gets into the cab, and notices that the VERY
handsome cab driver won't stop staring at her.
She asks him why he is staring.
He replies: 'I have a question to ask you but I don't
want to offend you.'
She answers, 'My son, you cannot offend me. When
you're as old as I am and have been a nun as long as I
have, you get a chance to see and hear just about
everything. I'm sure that there's nothing you could
say or ask that I would find offensive.'
'Well, I've always had a fantasy to have a nun kiss
me.'
She responds, 'Well, let's see what we can do about
that: #1, you have to be single and #2, you must be
Catholic.'
The cab driver is very excited and says, 'Yes, I'm
single and Catholic!'
'OK' the nun says. 'Pull into the next alley.'
The nun fulfills his fantasy, with a kiss that would
make a hooker blush
But when they get back on the road, the cab driver
starts crying.
'My dear child,' says the nun, 'why are you crying?'
'Forgive me but I've sinned. I lied and I must
confess, I'm married and I'm Jewish.'
The nun says, 'That's OK. My name is Kevin and I'm
going to a Halloween party.'
